Well done to the Ringwood U16’s getting to the final of The Bankes Cup unfortunately getting beaten by a powerful and skilful Hamworthy side. Ringwood weathered a lot of early pressure with some superb goalkeeping by Alex Canning keeping the game level. Ringwood then went ahead, a quick break putting Samuel Howson through on goal and he coolly scored. Hamworthy kept up the pressure and Ringwood unfortunately right on the stroke of half time conceded an own goal from a Hamworthy free kick.
The second half was much of the same, both sides matching each other physically however Hamworthy’s quality ultimately came through and they took a deserved lead with 15 mins to go. Ringwood continued to press and created a couple of chances but unfortunately couldn’t make them count, the pressing contributing to Hamworthy scoring a couple of late goals with the game ending 4-1 to Hamworthy.
It was the end of a cup run that saw them beat Poppies 6-0, West Moors 4-1 and draw with Redhill 1-1, a great achievement from a developing team that next year will face the challenge of playing U18 football.
