Sydenhams (Wessex) Division 1 - East Cowes Victoria 2 Ringwood Town 0
'No weekend Island joy for Ringwood'
Ringwood's immediate hopes of pushing up the League table were dealt a blow at the weekend as East Cowes took the better of the few chances in a match influenced by the strong wind and persistent rain.
Town keeper Cousins was forced into an early save with his legs before Paul Manning nearly gave the visitors the lead on quarter of an hour with a left foot shot that curled inches wide.
With both sides taking their time to adapt to the conditions it was probably the additional factor of Ringwood's recent inactivity that would prove crucial on the day.
Town skipper Pierson had to clear acrobatically off the line but in doing so sustained a cut to the head when colliding with the post.
Elezi set up marauding full back Scott Hole for a well drilled shot but home keeper Brownrigg saved well to keep the scores level at the break.
East Cowes came out for the second half with more purpose and Ringwood were not able to get the ball out of their own half for the first ten minutes. The first chance that Ringwood had to break saw the ball come straight back at them over the defence with a right wing break. Town keeper Cousins could only parry the resulting shot and Tom Scovell (55 minutes) was first to react and give the home side the lead.
Any second goal looked more likely to come from the hosts although Ringwood considered attacking substitutions in an effort to claw their way back in.
Despite the best efforts, East Cowes wrapped up the game with the clincher from Joe Adams (77 minutes) and despite a frantic finish there was to be no way back although Dan Morrell saw a free kick pushed onto the post with the last action of the match.
