Tuakana 1

 (AET; 1 - 1 at full-time; lost 2 - 4 on penalties)

With a switch to Friday night, Pete Alvis, used the Hampshire Intermediate Cup to give some of his fringe players the chance to push for a starting spot following a good start to the season. With Tuakana arriving with some big names and reputations in their side many gave the hosts little chance - how wrong they were!

Starting much the brighter, the young Ringwood team matched their opponents for hardwork and strength and clearly showed better technique. However the visitors were always dangerous and the strength and power of former Lymington man, Dominic Taylor, was an ever-present threat. Indeed the away side took the lead after about 20 minutes after the Ringwood back four were caught too square and Taylor was able to run onto a flick on to score past Pearce too easily.

However Ringwood rallied well and the fantastic Chris Bailey marshalled the back-four well. It was at the other end though that centre-half, Matt Austin was to make his name. A deep corner was header high as a clearance and Austin met the ball 20 yards out on the volley to strike through a mellay of players and under the keeper's body.

Despite having most of the rest of the half, Ringwood could not find the telling final ball and they were indebted to Pearce who was forced to make 2 good saves in one-on-one positions as Tuakana also failed to break the deadlock.

Half-time: 1-1

Unfortunately for Ringwood they lost lively striker, Kingsley White, early in the second half but the hosts had talent on the bench and the introduction of Ben Britnell injected a competitive edge. Both sides had chances to win it in normal time with substitutes George Thomas and Joe Hawkins making life particularly difficult for Tuakana, however again it was Pearce who was called upon in the dying seconds to take the game to extra-time.

Full-time: 1-1

Both sides showed signs of tiredness in the extra-period but it was Tuakana who scored what appeared to be the winning goal. Howver the linesman's flag went up belatedly but correctly to rule out what had been a classy lob. Pete Thompson could have secured the next round for Ringwood but he failed to beat the keeper when sent in one-on-one.

AET: 1-1

Penalties are often a lottery but Tuakana seemed to approach them with greater confidence. With Austin missing the first penalty for Ringwood the hosts were always playing catch-up and despite saving Tuakana's third, a Britnell miss ensured Tuakana's place in the next round.
