Fine performance for the season opener against a Brock side featuring four first teamers and who came to play. The ref commented that the game was a joy to referee as both teams were intent on playing the game rather than the usual gamesmanship and he had an easy and enjoyable evening.
Enjoyable game from the terraces too, RT went ahead on 3 minutes when a through ball found Chris Payne one on one with the Brock keeper Cousins whom he rounded to knock home into an empty net. RT dominated the game from then on and created a number of good chances while Brock's closest effort from Liam Collymoore brought a fullstretch save from Matt Langdown to turn his 20 yards shot around the post on the half hour. RT's second goal was in the offing and came from a free kick headed home by Nick Russon from 10 yards to send the home side in 2-nil up at the break.
Second half saw more of the same with badgers reduced to two poor efforts on Langdown's goal while Cousins at the Brock end was much busier. Midson and Chattey were causing the Brock right side all sort of problems and Payne's quick runs from the edge of the area promised more goals for RT. Chattey had a header ruled offside and Payne 's best effort was tuned over the bar. But the third goal fell to Phil Midson and well deserved, if in odd circumstances. Cousins hoofed clearance fell well short of the half way line and was pawed down by Midson from waist height who then volleyed straight back over the keeper's head for the ball to drop under the bar and over the line from a ridiculously high angle. Highly entertaining game of football, and a good start for the home side.
Full Time 3-0
